Franz Schubert Filharmonia of Spain Makes its Carnegie Hall Debut

The Franz Schubert Filharmonia Presents a Tribute to Pablo Casals

Learn About Pablo Casals’ Legendary Journey from Musician to Humanitarian

The Franz Schubert Filharmonia, the greatest independent orchestra in Spain, will make its Carnegie Hall debut on October 10th, 2023, with a very emblematic program under the baton of its Artistic and Music Director Tomàs Grau. The Franz Schubert Filharmonia is the resident orchestra of El Vendrell, hometown of Pablo Casals, one of the most important, influential and essential musicians of the 20th century.

Pablo Casals performed more than 30 times at New York’s Carnegie Hall, and gave several emblematic performances at the White House in Washington D.C., in front of President John F. Kennedy.

In the United States, Pablo Casals became a legend, leaving a great imprint on the American school of performers that continues to this day. In 2023 we will commemorate the 50th anniversary of his death, and we will remember the Peace Medal that the UN, at its official headquarters in New York, awarded the maestro in 1971 for his humanitarian work in defense of peace.

In honor of Maestro Casals the Franz Schubert Filharmonia will perform ‘Sant Martí del Canigó’ and a suprise encore during the concert. Two works that will once again make the art of this great musician resonate in the heart of the United States.

The Queen Sofia Spanish Institute is proud to partner with the Franz Schubert Filharmonia, as a collaborating institution this fall at Carnegie Hall.
