"Life Lessons" Wins the Talía Award of New York

Life Lessons / Lecciones de vida wins the “Award for the Best Contemporary Hispanic Performing Arts Production in New York”

Produced by Thalia Spanish Theater, Ángel Gil Orrios Director of the theater attended the Gala in Madrid.

Life Lessons / Lecciones de vida is a bilingual dramedy by the prestigious playwright from Madrid, Eduardo Galán, starring in English Kathy Tejada & Bill Blechingberg and in Spanish Soledad Lopez y William Saquicela.

A cultivated teacher and an uneducated fishmonger engage in a duel of personalities through several juicy parent-teacher school meetings, which will change their lives forever. She is debating if she should retire or continue teaching, and he is the poor father of a very troubled LGBTQ+ teenager student in need of help.

The Selection Committee chose the piece due to the tremendous effort conducted to produce it with two different casts (one in English and other in Spanish) adapting each version to its cultural peculiarities and for the universality of the theme.

The Talía Awards are the highest honor awarding excellence in the Performing Arts in Spanish presented by the Academy of Performing Arts of Spain (AAEE).

The Queen Sofía Spanish Institute leads this inaugural Selection Committee comprised a group of experts in their field who have provided their unique and astute perspectives in determining  the three nominees and winner of this year.
