American Independence would not have been possible without the support of Spain. As part of the Virginia Museum of History & Culture’s 250th Initiative, join the VMHC and the Queen Sofía Spanish Institute for a special evening commemorating the Spanish politicians, generals, and merchants who played a vital role shaping the outcome of the American Revolution.
The evening’s keynote address will be given by Amb. Gonzalo M. Quintero Saravia, SJD, PhD, author of several books on 18th-century Spanish American history, and a former Fellow at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs at Harvard University.
Highlights include:
- Remarks from a representative of the Embassy of Spain in the United States.
- Remarks from M. Begonia Santos, President & CEO of the Queen Sofía Spanish Institute.
- Lecture from renowned expert Amb. Gonzalo M. Quintero Saravia, SJD, PhD.
- Special display of original VMHC manuscripts related to Spain’s involvement in the American Revolution.
- A special reception featuring Spanish-inspired hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and music.
- After-hours access to the VMHC’s exhibits, including, Revolutionary Allies: Foreign Friends of American Independence.
