Announcement of the Longlist for the
2025 Queen Sofía Spanish Institute Translation Prize
The Queen Sofía Spanish Institute (QSSI) announces the finalists for the 2025 Queen Sofía Spanish Institute Translation Prize, a $10,000 award for the best English translation of a work originally written in Spanish.
The ten finalist translations were selected by a distinguished Reading Committee composed of experts in the discipline of translation: Committee Chair Samantha Schnee, founding editor and Chair of the Board of Words Without Borders; Charlotte Whittle, Writer, Award-winning Literary Translator from Spanish; and Heather Cleary, writer, translator, and winner of the 2024 QSSI Translation Prize.
The finalists include translations of works written by renowned authors from Spain and Latin America whose impact on literature is celebrated internationally, such as Claudia Piñeiro, Yuri Herrera and José Donoso.

The Queen Sofía Spanish Institute Translation Prize aims to recognize the fundamental role of translators in making relevant and topical literary works accessible to a global audience.
The Queen Sofía Spanish Institute 2025 Translation Prize ceremony will take place on Thursday, November 20th at the Espacio de Culturas at the KJCC at New York University as part of “An Evening of Translation”.
