The Queen Sofía Spanish Institute (QSSI) is pleased to announce the election of Pilar Lladó Arburúa as the new Chair of its Board of Directors. The QSSI is a non-profit institution founded in 1954 in New York City by a group of Americans interested in Spain and the Spanish-speaking world with the aim of stimulating interest in the United States in Spain’s history, art, language, literature, gastronomy and culture.
The QSSI has carried out this mission for seventy years through programs and activities aimed at publicizing the contributions and excellence in numerous fields of Spain and the Spanish-speaking world to the history and culture of the United States in order to create lasting bonds of friendship and promote mutual understanding.
Pilar Lladó Arburúa has a strong track record in the business world and a firm commitment to cultural promotion, which will provide a groundbreaking vision and a strategic focus to the QSSI. She is Founding Partner and CEO of Trio Asesores Inmobiliarios and is present on the Board of Directors of various Spanish companies. Her commitment to the field of culture is reflected in her outstanding work as President of the Friends of the Reina Sofía Museum Foundation, Member of the Royal Board of Trustees of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, and her role as President of the International Patrons Council of the Fundación Museo Reina Sofía, among other relevant positions. She has been honored with the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts awarded by the Ministry of Culture of Spain.
Pilar Lladó Arburúa has an impressive academic background; with a degree in economics from American University in Washington D.C., she has also completed postgraduate courses in key areas such as Finance, Assets, Negotiation and Communications at Harvard Business School and the IE Business School in Madrid where she demonstrated outstanding performance.
In her new position, Lladó Arburúa expressed her enthusiasm to contribute to the Queen Sofía Spanish Institute: “It is an honor to be part of a distinguished institution that has historically played a crucial role in promoting the richness of Hispanic culture in the United States. My goal is to provide a new impetus to the Institute’s activities, especially within the framework of its 70th anniversary and the celebrations surrounding the contribution of Spain and the Spanish-speaking world to the 250th anniversary of the birth of the United States.”
