Eduardo Aparicio Awarded With $20,000

 Inaugural QSSI Literary Translation Fellowship

Ten Honorable Mentions Were Also Awarded to Outstanding Translations

The Inaugural Literary Translation Fellowship was awarded to Eduardo Aparicio, who will receive $20,000 to support the full English translation of Las frases robadas by José Luis Sastre. In addition to the financial award, the Fellowship included a publisher’s forum with U.S. editors, designed to connect emerging translators with leaders in American publishing and to create direct opportunities for dialogue, professional feedback, and potential future publications.

The Queen Sofía Spanish Institute, in partnership with Penguin Random House, launched this initiative to support translators by offering unpublished and emerging translators a unique platform to present their work, showcase their talent, and pitch their translation projects directly to publishers.

Ten honorable mentions, each receiving $500, were also awarded to outstanding submissions.

About the Inaugural Literary Translation Fellowship

Aiming to allow unpublished translators and other emerging literary translators the chance to audition, show their talent, and get the chance to pitch their translations to publishers, the Queen Sofía Spanish Institute with the support of Penguin Random House seeks to support translators by offering this initiative. The most successful sample translation from Spanish into English, selected by the jury, will receive the Literary Translation Fellowship, a grant of $20,000 to translate the entire book. Ten of the sample translations that demonstrate promise, finesse and skill will be awarded Honorable Mentions, a smaller grant of $500 each.
