The Queen Sofía Spanish Institute and the St. Charles County Historical Society are pleased to present a special program exploring the history of the influence of Spain in the Louisiana Territory as documented in the Archivo General de Indias, one of the world’s most significant repositories of colonial Spanish records. This event is organized within the America&Spain250 initiative, which commemorates the enduring relationship between Spain and the United States in the context of the 250th anniversary of American independence.

About the Speaker:
Dr. Antonio Sánchez de Mora is an archivist and researcher at the Archivo General de Indias in Seville, Spain, one of the world’s foremost repositories of documents related to the Spanish Empire in the Americas and the Philippines. He holds a doctorate in History from the University of Seville and specializes in the colonial history of the Americas, with a particular focus on the governance, military affairs, and social structures of Spanish territories in North America. Dr. Sánchez de Mora has researched extensively on early modern Spanish colonial administration and is recognized for his expertise in curating and interpreting archival materials related to the Mississippi Valley and the Louisiana Territory during the 18th century.
