The Museo Nacional de Artes Decorativas (National Museum of Decorative Arts) in Madrid is full of unique artistic treasures from textiles to ceramics, furniture to jewelry. Through this tour of the museum, Victoria Ramírez Ruíz explains the interest that certain American collectors of the Gilded Age had in Spanish tapestries. As a consequence of this, some of these coveted pieces are found today in museums and collections across the United States. Joined by Carmen Reviriego, Sofía Rodríguez Berniz uncovers some of the true highlights from the 15th through 20th centuries such as objects owned by nobility during Spain’s Golden Age, “estrados” unique to Spain, and a full 18th century tiled kitchen designed for serving hot chocolate.
