Jaime Olmedo Ramos Joins the Royal Academy of History as a Full Member
The Queen Sofía Spanish Institute (QSSI) is proud to celebrate the induction of Jaime Olmedo Ramos, a distinguished member of its Cultural Committee, as a full member of the Royal Academy of History of Spain.
The ceremony took place on March 15, 2026, in Madrid, where Olmedo formally assumed his seat as académico de número (a numbered academic), occupying seat No. 20. His election, announced in June 2025, recognizes a career dedicated to the advancement of historical and literary scholarship.
A leading scholar in the field of Hispanic studies, Olmedo has devoted more than two decades to the Royal Academy of History of Spain, where he has directed major initiatives including the Diccionario Biográfico Español and the digital platform Portal Historia Hispánica, both key tools for the dissemination of historical knowledge internationally. In collaboration with the Queen Sofía Spanish Institute, he has also contributed to bringing these resources to audiences in the United States, expanding their reach and impact.
His appointment to the Academy stands as a recognition of his intellectual leadership and long-standing commitment to the humanities. It also reflects the continued relevance of rigorous historical scholarship in fostering a deeper understanding of Spain’s cultural legacy.
The QSSI is honored to count Jaime Olmedo among the members of its Cultural Committee and congratulates him on this well-deserved distinction.
