The Queen Sofia Spanish Institute is delighted to announce that submissions for our 2026 Translation Prize are now open.
With the aim of elevating awareness and engendering appreciation of Spanish-language literature in the United States, this $10,000 prize was created to honor the best English-language translation of a literary work written in Spanish.
Eligibility for the 2026 Translation Prize:
- Submissions must be prose fiction or literary non-fiction (e.g. memoirs). Anthologies are not accepted. Children’s literature is not accepted.
- Submissions may be made by publishers, authors, or translators for this prize.
- The book must be a translation from Spanish into English.
- The book may be translated by a translator based anywhere in the world.
- Co-translations are accepted.
- The translated book must have been published in the previous calendar year (in 2025). The original Spanish language title may have been published in any year.
The winner of the 2026 Translation Prize will be awarded a $10,000 prize. The award ceremony will take place in November 2026 in New York City.
In 2026, in commemoration of the 250th anniversary Spain’s Relationship with the United States, 1776 – 2026, all shortlisted titles (excluding the first prize winner) will receive an award of $250.
The Queen Sofía Spanish Institute suggests a $25.00 donation for each submission. This fee is waived for 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations.
