II Edition Quizstory Podcast Awards: Competition Winners Announced

For the second consecutive year, the Community of Madrid, the Royal Academy of History, and the Queen Sofía Spanish Institute brought together over a hundred Secondary Education students to the ceremony of the Quizstory Podcast Awards based on the app Quizstory: Spanish Friendship.

This year participants not only used the educational app Quizstory: Spanish Friendship, but also had access to the new educational platform Spanish Influence on American History, developed by the Queen Sofía Spanish Institute in collaboration with the Royal Academy of History and the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. This extensive educational platform dedicated to Spain’s contribution to the American Revolution includes lesson plans, primary sources, videos, academic essays, biographies, and timelines.

Participation doubled this year to 42 teams, and students created diverse podcasts in English and Spanish to highlight key figures such as Bernardo de Gálvez, Fernando de Leyba, John Jay, Diego de Gardoqui, and Oliver Pollock, among others.

The Quizstory Podcast Award is part of the America&Spain250 initiative, which aims to highlight Spain’s crucial yet little-known contributions to the American Revolution, as well as to promote a better understanding of the complex, changing, and enduring relationship between Spain, the Spanish-speaking world, and the United States.

Organized by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Universities, in collaboration with the Queen Sofía Spanish Institute and the Royal Academy of History, the award aims to enhance language learning, foster cultural understanding, and cultivate student interest in radio and media.

During the awards ceremony, Octavio Ruiz-Manjón from the Royal Academy of History awarded the third-place winners in English and Spanish, Ángel Huerga of the Community of Madrid presented the awards to the second-place winners, and M. Begonia Santos, President and CEO of the Queen Sofía Spanish Institute, honored the first-place winners. First-place winners received tickets to Puy du Fou España theme park in Toledo, while second and third place received visits to the Royal Academy of History, educational materials, and history book collections.
